How often do you find the right person?
Glen Hansard's extraordinary vocal performance in this tender romantic musical is filled with raw emotions rarely seen in movies these days. The heart of this movie lies not in it's production value, nor in the vocal technique of the singers, but in the honesty with which the performers bare their lyrics. Perhaps this is because the actors wrote the songs themselves.
The minimalism of the music mirrors the stripped down manner in which the film is shot. The duet between acoustic music and uncomplicated film technique perfectly captures the mood of this modern-day romance. This movie features one of the sweetest "first date" scenes I have ever witnessed. It makes me want to date a musician.
The simple melody of the theme song "Falling Slowly" belies it's genius. Like a plaintive lullaby for a lost love, the melody will haunt one long after one leaves the theater.
The songs from this movie reaffirm my belief that the best art comes from passion and heartache. I want to learn how to play the guitar now. Any recommendations?

I knew absolutely nothing about Little Miss Sunshine before seeing it. I left a convert. Best little movie of the year. If you've ever been in a beauty pageant, you'll be horrified by this little comedy... but that's OK... this movie wasn't made for you.
The trailer doesn't do the movie justice. In fact, it's probably better if you don't watch the trailer. I didn't. You'll just have to trust me and see it. I'll leave you with this picture from the film of Steve Carell jumping out of a VW.
